Christine, with Gambit, left and Logan, right. It was a successful day
at the local Gymkhana event
.(notice Gambit got all the blue ribbons!)
Gambit, takes a day off from riding and helps me
pick the Daily Double!
My name is Donn Egidio, and my wife and I own three
horses, and four donkeys.  Here I am with my good buddy,
Gold Deputy aka Gambit, after we competed in western
pleasure. Gambit is my 18 year old ex-racehorse. We
adopted him from Bright Futures Farm
(www.brightfutures.org), a horse rescue. Don't believe all the
bad things you've heard about ex-racehorses. I have never
had a problem with Gambit (except trailer loading, but we
later found out he had been in a serious trailer accident, and
was finally taught to load by trainer Kenny Harlow,
www.kennyharlow.com). Gambit, along with my wife
Christine's 16 year old Quarter Horse, Logan, spent two
months several summers ago with Clinton Anderson for
re-education training.  They're both great horses and have
taught us a lot about horses and ourselves -- we wouldn't
trade them for all the money in the world (as I'm sure you
feel about your own horses!).

"Cause no harm -- respect the Healing Powers of Nature."
I am now in my 8th year of being a full time hoof trimmer, I
can tell you I still am learning something new all the time. I
started as a member of the AANHCP. At that time, I guess you
could say my method of trimming was "less is more." But as
time went on, and even though I was seeing amazing results, I
tried to tweak things to get even better results. I fell victim to
listening to other people instead of what was already working. I
thought statements like, "Concavity is overrated" made sense.
(What was I thinking?!)  And, "A day or two of ouchiness is
acceptable and expected."  (Now I have people taking riding
lessons right after trims.)   Well, lucky for me, and because I
am always trying to further my training, I recently trained with
two wonderful women, Lisa Dawe of NC, and Sue Mellon of VT.
I jokingly equate it going to rehab. These two women have
brought me "back to the reservation."  I have gone the full
circle and am back to the "less is more" technique.  I am
happier with the results I'm seeing, my clients are happier, but
mainly, and most importantly, the horses are happier!
